It seeks to rescue contemporary black storytelling from the clutches of men in drag and misogynist moralizing.. At times, the movie feels like a commercial for Wonder Bread, stretched to feature length.. I'm not going to claim this is a good movie, in some Platonic-ideal way.... The romantic comedy 27 Dresses provides [Heigl] with a chance to flex her comedic muscles, and her whip-smart delivery and timing are an indication that we may at last have a worthy heroine for the otherwise shaky future...
